All candidates will be expected to successfully complete an initial assessment before joining the course. If unsuccessful, alternative Skills for Life courses are available. Course Overview GCSE Maths is a basic qualification that develops confidence in both handling data and logical thinking. It is an essential subject for many careers. GCSE Maths is an entry requirement for most higher education courses.

Qualification gained: Candidates will take the GCSE qualification at Foundation level (up to grade C).

Course Content: There are three modules on the course: 1. Handling Data:- Collecting, analyzing and displaying data, Probability. 2. Number and algebra:- Fractions, decimals, percentages, tax, VAT, household bills. 3. Number and algebra:-Equations, graphs, areas, volumes, Pythagoras, trigonometry.

Work Experience: There is no work experience on this course.

Course Assessment: There are external examinations at the end of each module. Module 1 exam in November, Module 2 exam in March, Module 3 exam in June.

Progression: Further study at A-level or GNVQ Advanced level. Many further and Higher Education Institutions require a minimum of a GCSE Grade C, even for courses that are Arts based.

Homework: Learners need to do approximately 4 hours per week outside the class.

Additional Costs: Learners may wish to buy a recommended textbook and a calculator.
