OCN Supporting The Dyslexic Learner Certificate
This course is primarily aimed at teachers, learning support assistants (LSAs) and parents who would like a qualification in working with dyslexics. It will be offered at Level 2 and Level 3. Please note, a prerequisite for this course is prior attendance on the How to cope with dyslexia course run by the College.

Course Content:
Although the course will take six months to complete, there will only be ten taught lessons. Students will also have the opportunity to attend three non-compulsory workshops and four non-compulsory tutorials. The taught lessons will cover the following topics:
  • What is dyslexia
  • ? Theories
  • Assessing the learner
  • Learning styles
  • Numeracy
  • Phonics and spelling
  • Reading
  • Non-literacy difficulties
  • Use of IT with dyslexics
You will be asked to produce a portfolio of work on dyslexia and your work with dyslexics for submission at the end of course.

Open College Network (OCN).
