ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management/Development is a two year part-time Masters level programme and it provides a theoretical basis for study of management issues, in an informed and critical manner. This postgraduate qualification requires a considerable amount of independent study, reading, research and writing. All applicants will be required to demonstrate their ability to undertake study at this level together with evidence of their ability and opportunity to complete work-based projects and assignments.
It is expected that applicants will have met one of the following entry requirements for entry into Part 1:
1. A relevant degree and recent employment with at least two years relevant professional experience or
2. Certificate in Personnel Practice/ Certificate in Training Practice with MERIT or
3. Other qualifications judged by the authorised admitting officer to be of equivalent standard to the minimum entry requirements.
Part 2 entry requirements:
Completion of PG Dip HRM Part 1 (Leadership and Management)
In exceptional circumstances an applicant will be considered on the basis of extensive relevant professional experience in a management role (minimum five years) where this is deemed to be equivalent to the minimum entry requirements. This will be at the discretion of the Programme Leader in HRM.
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
The Postgraduate Diploma in HRM/HRD gives students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, understanding and competence required by human resource and development practitioners to manage within an increasingly complex and dynamic social and business environment.
All students study the Leadership & Management Standards before undertaking two common Practitioner Development modules and proceed onto the HRM pathway or the HRD pathway (subject to availability). Both pathways incorporate People Management and Development.
Formal assessment for each module is through either written assignment or examination as determined by the course teaching team. Integrative assessment across all modules comprises a separate assessment for People Management and Development at the end of the course and an individual management report focusing on a work-related human resource issue. Students can expect approximately 50:50 written assignments to assessments across the two years of the course.

Part 1 - Leadership & Management Standards:
Managing and Leading People, Managing in a Strategic Business Context, Managing Information for Competitive Advantage and Managing for Results.
Part 2 - Professional Development Scheme:
Human Resource Strategy, Research Methods, Employment Law, Learning and Development, People Management and Development, People Resourcing, Employee Relations and Management Research Report.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of Part 1, students will be awarded Licentiate Membership of the CIPD. Part 1 students can progress onto Part 2 - Practitioner Development and on successful completion of both Parts 1 and 2 students will be awarded Graduate Membership of the CIPD. Students may wish to progress onto a Masters Degree in HRM. Students may then seek to upgrade to Corporate Membership of the CIPD through the CIPD institute. The current requirement is to demonstrate three years relevant experience at management level as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) over the last three years.
