Professional Cert. In Education Certificate
This two-year part-time programme is offered in partnership with the University of Greenwich and is equivalent to the new national Level 5 qualification, the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS). It is suitable for full- and part-time practising teachers and trainers in the post-compulsory sector. Students will have the option of attending either one morning session or one twilight session per week. Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status was launched for the post-compulsory education and training sector in September 2007. It was introduced in Equipping our Teachers for the Future, the reform agenda for Initial Teacher Training within the Success for All change programme. From September 2007, all new and unqualified teachers, trainers and tutors within the sector are required to achieve QTLS status within five years of their first appointment in the sector. Under the new reforms all new teachers are required to register with the Institute for Learning (IfL) the professional body for teachers, trainers and assessors across the Further Education (FE) sector and achieve a recognised Level 5 teaching qualification within five years. The end qualification (Professional Certificate in Education or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) awarded by the University is determined on entry according to graduate or non-graduate status. Level 5 DTLLS equivalence is awarded in both cases. Both programmes also include the content of the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) and Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) qualifications.
