Is it right for me?
This course is designed to support you to develop advanced trimming skills. It will be suitable for you if you are looking for career progression in dog grooming, wish to develop previously learnt dog grooming skills or are proficient at preparing dogs for styling and wish to add to your Continuous Professional Development.
To complete the Certificate you will need to pass four mandatory written units before completing two mandatory practical assessments and an optional practical assessment.
Please note: both the written and practical exams are externally assessed.

What qualifications will I need?
Students must have an acceptable level of literacy and must have completed a lower level dog grooming certificate and be working in the dog grooming industry to be eligible to enrol on this course.

What will I be learning about?
Preparation for the written test will include:
  • In'depth research into breed standards
  • Bathing, grooming and styling techniques
  • General care and common ailments of the dog
  • Handling, control and emergency care of the dog
  • Organisation of the grooming salon
  • Legal requirements of the grooming salon

Students will also need to complete the practical styling of a Spaniel and a short'legged Terrier, and also a choice option of a long'legged Terrier, miniature Schnauzer or Poodle for their practical tests.

Where will it take me?
Manage a dog grooming business. Set up your own business on a self'employed basis. Work within the allied industries (eg dog boarding kennels)

What materials are required?
You will need to be able to provide dogs when required. For the practical test you will need to provide your own tools and equipment.

What is next?
Advanced Certificate in Canine and Feline Management.

How will I be assessed?
Continued observation and portfolio work throughout the course culmulating in a written short answer test and a practical test.

How much will it cost?
£850. Plus the additional cost of £200 exam registration fee for the 3 practical grooming exams, which must to be taken within 2 years.
