Course aims:
Do you want to train as a trainer? This nationally recognised course is designed for those who wish to improve their skills and knowledge of basic training work and related areas.
Successful completion of the course will enable you to obtain the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Certificate in Training Practice. It also provides invaluable background knowledge and training skills, and a qualification on which to apply for the Institutes professional course of study.

Course content:
Course Content:
The course comprises four units:
  • Training in context
  • Identifying and prioritising learning needs
  • Designing training and assessment
  • Delivering and evaluating training.

You will learn in a number of different ways including:
  • group teaching
  • working with others in pairs or small groups
  • case study and project work
  • presentations.

This is an intensive course with a lot of work to be done in relatively few taught hours.

Facilities for students:
Library facilities contain a number of associated course text books and computer access.

Tutors:
Qualified trainers in their field

Assessment: Students are required to satisfactorily complete a formal project proposal to be externally marked, four assignments set throughout the course, a work-based project which represents at least ten days work, a work-based log of your training record and continuing professional development, a work file of your training activities and a presentation at the end of the course on the project and your personal development record.

Entry Requirements:
There are no formal academic qualifications required for entry to this course. The course is suitable if you are working in training or planning to work in training or a related field. However, as you will have to undertake a practical training project and work-based assignments you would be expected to gain some experience within a training environment during the course. Before starting the course it is recommended that you read articles on training issues and become more familiar with the wide area of work of training. You would have to join the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Interview for entry: Interview required

Pre-entry preparation:
Additional work is anticipated to normally take at least four hours per week. You will be required to complete coursework, reading around the subject area and reflect on your own development and practice. It is difficult to be precise with the extra time needed as each student has their own particular needs within their own context. The course is strongly and directly linked to the training role and therefore some of the coursework will link into the students practice.

Progression and links:
Upon completion of this course you may wish to progress to further qualifications such as the Institutes professional course of study or the Certificate in Business Awareness and Advanced Professional Study. Successful candidates are eligible to apply for Associate Membership of the Institute.
This well recognised qualification enables candidates to enter or progress within the training department of an organisation.

Work experience opportunities:
You will need to be in an associated work placement or able to access associated an work placement from the start of this course.

If you are under 19 on 31st August 2009 you do not have to pay Tuition Fees, the College Registration, Awarding Body Registration or Exam/Assessment Fees. However, you will have to pay any Resource Fees. Under 19s entering Higher Education will have to pay full costs.
