Who is the programme for? The Foundation Degree in Working with Vulnerable Adults is primarily for people employed in the health and social care sector, and in organisations that provide services for those who are deemed to be vulnerable in society. It may also be of interest to those who are yet unsure of their future career progression, but would like to achieve a qualification that has generic qualities.

What will I study? Students will study thirteen modules over the duration of the foundation degree, including: * Healthy Developments (30 credits) * Essential Skills for Health and Social Care (30 credits) * Essential Skills for Learning (15 credits) * Social Inclusion (15 credits) * Wrights, Wrongs and Legalities (15 credits) * Interacting with People (15 credits) In year two students will study: * Vulnerability - Individuals and Groups (30 credits) * Service, Provision and Support (15 credits) * Meeting Challenges (15 credits) * Management and Leadership (15 credits) * Care, Co-ordination of Long Term Conditions (15 credits) * Health and Social Needs of People with a Disability (15 credits) * Work-based Module (15 credits)

Entry to the Programme?

How is it assessed? A variety of assessment techniques are used, ranging from writing reports, assignments, portfolios of evidence and undertaking timed multi-choice question papers.

Future prospects? On completion of the foundation degree, students can if they wish, progress onto the articulated award of the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care at Edge Hill University, or aid and enhance their employment with their recognised qualification in Working with Vulnerable Adults.

When will the programme start? The programme will commence in September 2010.

How long will it take? The programme will take between two and three years to complete. Attendance will be required on either two days or part time day/evening per week.

What about the Money? St Helens College is committed to providing value for money higher education programmes, therefore programme fees for Honours Degrees and Foundation Degrees for 2010/11 will be 2,100* per year for full time programmes.

How do I apply? Complete an application form and return it to Student Services, you will then be asked to attend College for an interview. Full time students will need to apply via UCAS.

Entry Requirements
Applicants to the programme should, ideally, have a Level 3 qualification in a related subject, such as health and social care. Those with non-traditional qualifications and/or who have worked within the field of health and social care, either paid or voluntary, are also invited to apply. In some cases, potential students will be required to provide an enhanced CRB check, and undergo a medical examination, due to the client groups with whom they may be working.
