Course Aims:
To provide an introduction and insight into Hairdressing and Barbering.
Course Content:
Students will study both the theoretical and practical aspects of Hairdressing and Barbering to include:
Make sure your actions reduce the risks to health and safety
Contribute to the development of effective working
Shampoo and condition the hair
Prepare the hair for further services
Assist with salon reception duties
Assist with hair colour services
All students will also study Functional skills in Maths, English and IT plus a further 2 Personal, Social and Development units to enhance their employability and work skills.
Duration:
1 year with the possibility of progressing to Level 2 in the third term.
Exam:
All elements of this course are assessed by practical observation, written tests, assignments and oral questions. There are specific examination dates for Functional skills.

Kit - Approximately 190
Uniform top - Approximately 16 (Full time students require 2 )
Visit to local trade fair / events approximately 20
Optional overnight visit to London Salon International in October - Approximately 150
All full time students pay a College enrolment fee of 15.
Students over 19 pay a VTCT registration fee of 16, exam fee of approximately 43 and possibly course fees depending on personal circumstance and employment status.Please seek advice from Student Services.
Students over 19 progressing onto a Level 2 programme will be required to pay a further exam fee of approximately 55.

Professional Appearance:
Smart appearance and good personal hygeine are essential.
Students must wear the required uniform top, black trousers and black covered toe shoes to gain access to our salon sessions.
Progression:
For students who are sucessful on this programme ( having had excellent attendance and discipline record alongside a proven ability) there is a natural progression to a Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing or Barbering.Options include Diplomas and Apprenticeship.
Students can change their options to an alternative Level 2 programme if required.Students who would benefit from an alternative career path or subject will be given support and guidance to help them with their options.
