Course programme
Learners can start college from 16 years and we can liaise closely with schools to ensure a good transition.
The Isle of Wight College will provide ways to develop the skills that each individual needs for increased independence and employability if appropriate. The full time courses will follow the recognised outcomes of ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ and focus on developing independent living skills, employment, community inclusion and well-being. The course will be person centred and learners will have a bespoke timetable to provide a supported progression route to the next stage of their lives. This could include developing skills to travel independently, achieve work experience or learning how to look after yourself. Learners will also be able to continue to study maths and English.
Our students succeed at an amazing pace and gain the skills and confidence to move on to interesting lives away from College.
Our full time courses focus on:
While on the course you will learn the skills you need to live with increased independence, such as shopping and household management, cooking, healthy eating, using public transport and looking after yourself. You will also learn the skills that will help you to find work in the future such as timekeeping, following instructions, working alone and within a team and problem solving. We have an experienced work place facilitators who support students to secure work placements/experience and support learners on placements. Successful placements include the Cup and Saucer at the Isle of Wight Council and Park Court residential home.
The new Pathways Building is open and you will have a purpose built facility to support your learning.
All our programmes are planned around your individual learning needs, with every student having a personalised timetable. You will be assigned to a tutor group and work with a tutor and a team of learning support assistants who will support you throughout your time in College.
