About this course
The course has been designed as a distance learning course to enable you, as a working practitioner, to access level 7 training and development using online learning materials and guidance to support you with your studies. However, studying remotely does not mean you will study alone. For each module you will be together in small peer groups as an online community. You will also be assigned an academic tutor to answer any questions, provide feedback on progress, and give general advice. The course explores both theoretical and practical issues surrounding SEN and inclusion and aims to develop your professional attributes, knowledge, understanding and skills as a SENCO so that disabled children and those with SEN can actively participate and achieve within the education system. You will have the opportunity to reflect upon and improve your practice whilst learning more about the coordination of special educational needs, leadership and management, policy and supporting the individual needs of children and young people.

The module aims to examine and discuss evidence bases and practices that are relevant to the exploration of issues of inclusion for pupils with SEN and/or impairments. An understanding of the various research approaches and their associated methodologies will also be introduced. This will be achieved through discussion and critiquing published research. It also aims to challenge students to develop their own portfolios by critically evaluating evidence based practice and the impact of intervention in their own spheres of work or in another setting.
