2. Course description You will need your own D-SLR camera and be comfortable taking photographs in 'Manual' mode.You will explore new camera techniques using your skills during practical fun sessions both in the classroom and during our field trips.This course is designed to include practical and hands-on sessions where you will learn more specific skills such as Portrait Photography. You will have the opportunity to use studio equipment and to set up a mobile studio. You will have fun with lighting using studio lighting techniques and backdrop to create varied images whilst learning ways of posing subjects. You will learn how to frame your photos by cropping images that may seem boring so creating an image that jumps out of the page and use "depth of field" techniques including using ISO speed, aperture choice and shutter speed. Each week you will be involved in a new project using the skills you will be gaining throughout the course.You will be learning in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere using your cameras throughout the lessons. There will be a series of 'theme-based' assignments and 4 or 5 'Field Trips' within the 10 week course. At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to exhibit at the Harvey Gallery, Guildford as part of the Summer Exhibition.

3. Entry requirements If you have a digital camera, have taken a Beginner's course or feel comfortable taking photographs in 'Manual Mode' and now want to explore photography further learning depth of field, lighting, capturing movement and responding to themes then this is the course for you. We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. Please let staff know if you require any extra support when you enrol and they will arrange for a member of the Supported Learning Team to contact you to discuss your support needs. Surrey Adult Learning values and supports equality and diversity by promoting fairness and respect at all times. 4. Equipment required You will need your own fully charged D-SLR with a memory card and at least one lens for the first lesson and the camera's instruction booklet/or be able to access this online.You will need to be capable of printing your images either at home or by using a printing service to get the best out of this course. The tutor will discuss with you if you might need a USB stick during the first sessions. Ideally you will have an Independent Flashgun (although not essential). Your tutor will be able to give you impartial advice as to purchasing additional equipment. 5. Assessment method Not available
