There will be presentations of images and ideas followed by tutor led group discussions.
Because this is a fairly new course the tutor will also be interested in on-going feedback from students and will use it to develop the course as it progresses.


Because this course is based around an open discussion of ideas and feelings about photography you will also receive feedback from fellow students as part of those discussions!

About this course

- be aware of key issues and debates in the areas of photography covered
- be more confident about taking part in a general photographic discussion
- understand the work, thinking and background of the photographers selected for the group to discuss
- be aware of the background history and development of photographic practice in the areas of photography covered.

You may wish to bring a notebook and pen. You may also wish to bring images, newspaper or magazine articles or books for discussion but this is not essential.

You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops and discussion, short lectures, practical exercises, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. You may be given material to read or research between classes but it will be your decision whether you want to do this or not. Please note that, should you want to bring visual material in for discussion, the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Photography.
