What's the course about?

Candidates will be begin to learn the basics of PhotoShop and expand their knowledge to complete typical image manipulation tasks, such as colour correction, image-retouching and enhancement.

Areas covered by the course include:

• Primary tools and functions of Adobe PhotoShop, for the management, control and alteration of images for print or screen output
• Taking images from digital cameras and improving them to specification
• Use of layers, filters, channels and masking techniques. Emphasis will be place on restoration techniques and basic image improvements
• Students will also learn about file formats, storage and output options for digital images

The course will be delivered through lectures demonstrations and handouts.

For assessment purposes, students will present a portfolio of work which should include examples of technical exercises using the tools and functions of PhotoShop, evaluative notes, examples of manipulation in response to a brief. Students will gain a pass, merit or distinction.

How long is the course and when will it be taught?

The course will be studied for 90 hours, either six hours over two evenings for 17 weeks or six hours during the day over 10 weeks.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

This course will provide specialist and transferable skills and knowledge training and development relevant to the creative industries. On successful completion, students will be able to proceed onto a higher education course or enter into industry.
