A2 PE provides the basis for students who wish to proceed to Higher Education to study PE, Sport, Sports Science, Coaching, Teaching, or areas related to the sport, leisure and recreation industries. The course may allow progression onto physiotherapy programmes if combined with an additional science qualification, such as A2 Biology.

About this course
Grade B or higher is required in GCSE Science and grade C in Additional Science (or grades BC in Double Award Science). Students must be participating in one sport/practical activity in their own time, at club level or higher.

LIFESTYLES - adaptations to training, work-life balance.
A2 PE Unit 3
Refining performance in Physical Education PRACTICAL PERFORMANCE in one sport (or coaching/officiating) COURSEWORK - Investigative research (3000 words) E.g.
- Investigate recovery methods in rugby
- Investigate stress/anxiety reduction strategies in athletics
- Investigate netball shooting techniques
A2 PE Unit 4
Performance, Provision and Participation in Physical Education REFINING SPORTING PERFORMANCE AND ENHANCING HEALTH - performance analysis, anxiety management, motivation, attribution. CONTEMPORARY INFLUENCES - organisation of sport, factors affecting participation, drugs in sport, media, sponsorship, technological developments in sport.
AS PE
Unit 1: Internally assessed, externally moderated (25% of A2)
Unit 2: 1hr 45 minutes written paper (25% of A2)
A2 PE
Unit 3: Internally assessed, externally moderated (25% of A2)
Unit 4: 2 hour written paper (25% A2)A2 PE provides the basis for students who wish to proceed to Higher Education to study PE, Sport, Sports Science, Coaching, Teaching, or areas related to the sport, leisure and recreation industries. The course may allow progression onto physiotherapy programmes if combined with an additional science qualification, such as A2 Biology. A2 PE would also be useful for students considering a career in the forces or public services.
