Course Content

Unit 1 Anatomy: movement analysis including bones, muscles and joints. Heart and circulation. Respiration. Skill Acquisition: learning and developing skilful movement
Contemporary Studies: issues connected with sport in society.

Unit 2 Practical Performance in 2 activities.

Unit 3 Sports Psychology and Historical Studies.
Exercise Physiology.

Unit 4 Practical: Performance and evaluation and appreciation of performance.
Club level in one sport, school/college team level in second sport.

How it is Taught
40% practical at AS, 30% at A2.

Units are teacher-led using a combination of styles and practical examples to demonstrate theoretical issues.

Students regularly complete exam style tasks and questions.

Useful/Common Subject Combinations
The subject combines well with Leisure & Recreation, Health & Social Care, Psychology, Biology, and Physics.

A student cannot take both A Level Physical Education and A Level Sport and PE.

Careers and HE Information
A number of students progress to related courses at university and take up careers in P.E. teaching, physiotherapy, sport and exercise science, sports coaching and the sport and leisure industry.
