Grade BB in Science Double Award (Higher Tier) or B in Physics (Higher Tier) is required. In Mathematics, B (Higher Tier) is the minimum acceptable grade.

AS Units (Year One)
The course is divided into three separate modules. They are:
Unit 1: Particles, Quantum Phenomena & Electricity
40% of AS (20% of whole A Level)
Unit 2: Mechanics, Materials & Waves
40% of AS (20% of whole A Level)
Unit 3: Investigative & Practical Skills in AS Physics20% of AS (10% of whole A Level)
Advanced Subsidiary (AS)
Unit 1: 1.5 hour written paper with six or seven structured questions
Unit 2: 1.5 hour written paper with six or seven structured questions
Unit 3: Centre assessed unit containing a practical skills assessment and an investigative skills assessment.
Examinations in January and June
A2 Units (Year Two)
This contains three modules:
Unit 4: Fields & Further Mechanics (20% of whole A Level)
Unit 5 : Section A Nuclear & Thermal Physics
Section B Optional Topic (Applied Physics, Medical Physics, Astrophysics
or Turning Points) 20% of whole A Level
Unit 6: Investigative & Practical Skills in A2 Physics (10% of whole
A Level)
Advanced Level (A2)
Unit 4: 1.5 hour written paper (Section A: 25 Multiple choice questions.
Section B four to five structured questions)
Unit 5: 1.5 hour written paper with eight to ten structured questions
Unit 10: Centre assessed unit containing a practical skills assessment
and an investigative skills assessment.
Examinations in January and JuneThe full Advanced Level in Physics provides the basis for students who wish to proceed to Higher Education to study Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, Geophysics, Medicine, Veterinary Science and other scientific careers.A famous quote by the late Professor Richard Feynman of Caltech'If you are a physicist you can be everything.'
