Who is this course for?
For those who want to develop professional skills in picture framing gilding and restoration.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
Some prior knowledge/skills are useful although not essential as students will be introduced to the basic equipment, tools and materials these are generally easy to master, but health and safety aspects will be observed throughout.

What is the level of the course?
Students of level of ability will be taught the aesthetics of picture framing, gilding and restoration. As teaching and learning situations change, individual courses within a "course" gradually develop to make a whole. Therefore, the scheme remains very flexible.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
To undertake picture framing making complete, which includes different types of mouldings and mounts, lines and wash in conjunction with colour proportion and materials. A comprehensive study of modern and traditional methods of oil and water gilding together with all allied processes. Learning outcomes : - Be able to make and design frames from the simple and basic to more embellished frames

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Practical workshop sessions and demonstrations, backed by talks/lectures. One-to-one discussions with the tutor, and where subject evaluation is determined through ongoing self assessment.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
Students assessment runs complimentary to ongoing one-to-one development aims.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
WMC Certificate

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Students are expected to augment their studies with visits to museums, art galleries and exhibitions. Collect information from periodicals and art magazines.

What can I do after completing this course?
Continue further studies in picture framing and gilding restoration, which for some may awaken the possibilities of pursuing long term picture framing or gilding and restoration training or advancement in Art Education establishments with a view to making it their livelihood.
