It may seem like stating the blindingly obvious but planning your retirement is probably not best left until you have retired. Besides, if you don’t plan your retirement, someone else might decide to do it for you! Spending a day now will pay dividends and, we hope, for many years to come. Our course is highly informative and encourages a positive attitude to taking control of your retirement and particularly the transition from working life into your new life, sometimes called the Third Age.

About this course

Through their active participation in this programme participants will be in a position to:

Hold an informed and positive attitude to retirement.
See, evaluate and act on the opportunities and challenges that retirement can present.
Make informed financial decisions.

For retirees to gain most benefit it is advisable to take the course about a year before your retirement date if possible.
Anyone with an organisational responsibility for supporting those preparing for retirement will broaden their understanding of the challenges and opportunities that retiring brings and add to their ideas about what can be done.

Course programme

The course focuses on giving participants the information and encouragement they need to come up with their own answers to a number of questions that are often uppermost in the mind of most retirees. How will I make the most of my time? What will I be able to afford? How can I best sort out my finances? Do I want to do paid or voluntary work? What sort of hobbies might suit me? If I want to gain some more education, where can I find the information? What can I do to adjust to my new lifestyle? What about health issues and residential care considerations? What about wills and Power of Attorney? What about state benefits, taxation and mortgages and investments? Might I want to or even need to move home?
