About this course

Identify and use 2+ traditional etching techniques
Operate the Rochat and Littlejohn presses safely
Draw, process and print an etching plate to a good standard
Appreciate how print can be used to develop thinking and extend creativity.

All materials are included for this course. There is nothing you need to bring for the first day.

Course programme

The traditional etching techniques of; Hard Ground, Soft ground, Aquatint, Sugar Lift, Burnishing Alternative resists, monotype inking, chine colle,
Line, Tone, Pattern and composition,
Registration, multiple plates, fine papers
You will look at how contemporary artists use etching and how it has been used historically.

Demonstrations of techniques will be given when new methods are introduced. One-to-one discussions and guidance and some voluntary homework tasks.

Additional information

You may wish to continue expanding your etching skills and enrol onto VS987 Experimental etching or VS711Etching and photoetching, for example, perhaps join a general print class VS748 Print studio or sign up for a course offering a more sustained experience, Advanced Fine Art Printmaking Stage 1.
