Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Communication Management

The Postgraduate diploma in internal communication management is run in conjunction with the Kingston University Business School and Communicators in Business (CiB)

This programme is designed to give participants a full understanding of a number of key themes, as well as the ability to apply a wide range of practical approaches to different situations. At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:


  • Understand the new communication environment and evaluate the effects of organisational culture and structure on internal communications
  • Understand the issues involved in internal communication and clearly define the role of an internal communications manager
  • Manage internal communication and understand its political significance; determine the impact of changes in labour markets and working practices; use internal communication to facilitate organisational change
  • Manage people involved in internal communication; understand and meet the different needs of internal customers; influence people at all levels.
  • Design and deliver effective communication strategies; understand the ways in which people receive and accept information; identify appropriate internal communicatin objectives, strategies and policies
  • Evaluate the cost of high and low technology methods and media; select the right communication approaches to achieve objectives; structure and manage efficient communication projects
  • Evaluate internal communication and the performance of the internal communication team; maintain high quality communication on a continuous basis
  • Draw up a cost-benefit analysis of the internal communication function
  • Anticipate and address issues for the future; produce an action plan for continuous learning and performance improvement.

Course Length:

The programme comprises an induction day, four modules and a final project. Each module consists of a workshop (including expert speakers and topical case studies) and an assignment that participants can immediately apply at work. Participants will be expected to spend a total of two working weeks attending workshops spread over a twelve-month period. Participants will be
assessed on the basis of all of the assignments and a final project.
