What is the course about?
This course is suitable for any adults interested in developing or improving their pottery skills.

What are the course outcomes?
The process of pottery making, properties and preparation of clay.
Basic hand building techniques, pinched, coiled and slab forms.
Working on the potter's wheel, bowls, cylinders and turning thrown forms.
Making lids, handles and spouts.
Working with plaster moulds.
Decorating processes, slips, oxides, under glazes and use of glaze.
Methods of professional potters.
Uses of tools and safety aspects of workshop practice.
Further details of other/more complex techniques as appropriate.
Basic skills will be taught to beginners, Intermediate and workshop students may choose from a range of suitable projects e.g. storage jars, tea pots, relief panels, celebration plates and plaques, composite pots, sculptural forms, tiles, exploring porcelain or other clay bodies.
This course allows you to develop your own ideas, with guidance when wanted.

Are there any additional requirements?
Materials:
Students should provide their own pottery tools and decorating brushes as required.

How will you be assessed?
There is no formal assessment, but a student will be awarded a certificate for this course provided he/she has attended at least 80% of the sessions.
