Course programme

What will this course cover?

This course covers domains A-C of the ‘Practice Educator Professional Standards’ and the ‘Values for Practice Educators and Supervisors’. It focuses on gaining knowledge skills and confidence in the management and organisation of practice education, enabling opportunities and learning, and assessment of students.

A variety of teaching methods will be used including workshops self-directed learning, group work and tutorials. On-line learning will be used to complement traditional methods of teaching. The assessment for this course will focus on both theoretical understanding and practical skills. This will be completed through:

  • an essay auditing the learning environment
  • a direct observation of supervision practice
  • a selection of practice evidence covering aspects of managing, teaching and assessment
  • a reflective essay.

You will be supported by a tutor and by a practice assessor/mentor for the practical element of the course. The role of the practice assessor/mentor is to assist you in developing your own role as a practice educator. They will observe you working with a learner, support you in gathering practice evidence and write a short report on your practice as a practice educator. You are also expected to develop a continuing awareness of your learning needs and a commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
