About this course

You will have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C. At least THREE must be from : English Language or Literature/Humanities (History,Geography,RS,Sociology,Psychology)/Business/Science (Core and Additional OR triple)/Maths. Alternatively you will have a DISTINCTION in a Level 2 Diploma OR an NVQ2 OR a CACHE Cert.

Pre-Nursing OCN Level 3
For those interested in a career in nursing or other health related fields, this course gives an insight to various nursing areas, providing the skills and qualities to become an effective nurse.

What does the course involve?
The course begins with learning about the different branches within the nursing profession, including necessary qualifications, progression routes and the skills and qualities required to become an effective nurse. There will be presentations by professionals from various nursing fields.

During the spring term practical experience will be gained in a health or community setting (to be arranged by students).

The final term consists an evaluation of the course and the completion of a portfolio of evidence.

What will I study?
Weeks 1 - 4 Introduction to course and different branches of nursing. Qualifications necessary and skills required.

Week 5 Visiting speaker.

Weeks 6 - 8 History of the development of the Health Service and the nursing profession. Practical caring skills.

Week 9 Visiting speaker.

Weeks 10 - 11 Ethical issues.

Week 12 Visiting speaker.

Weeks 13 - 14 Issues connected with practical experience.
