Who is this course for?
This is a one year course for those wishing to work with children under the age of eight. The course is open to men and women who are able to work at NVQ Level 2. It is particularly relevant if you have already achieved the PLA Introductory course, 'Learning Through Play', or have previous child care experience.

What are the entry requirements?
You need to have had some experience with children and have the ability to work at NVQ Level 2. Applicants will be asked to complete a written assessment as part of the interview process.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.

• Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
• Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.

What qualification will I receive?
CACHE Certificate in Pre - school Practice.

Where can it lead?
On completion, the course enables the person to gain employment as an assistant in a wide variety of childcare settings. The Certificate is recognised internationally.

What will I study?
The course consists of 4 Unit Assignments: 3 Core Units and 1 optional Unit. Each Unit gives students the chance for an in-depth study of all aspects affecting the care, education and development of young children.

Candidates may progress to higher level qualifications such as the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Pre - school Practice.

How will I be taught?
You will be taught through lectures, discussion groups, workshops and placement experience.

How will I be assessed?
The Units are assessed through a combination of written assignments.
