The course is intended to introduce you to teaching and show you what the teaching and learning process involves. PTLLS is considered to be the ‘threshold' qualification for teachers wanting to enter the Lifelong Learning Sector. We hope to inspire you to continue your studies after the course and progress to the professional status of either ATLS or QTLS, of which you will learn more during the course. Course programme

Aim of course:

To introduce some key principles of teaching and learning and apply these to practical activities in order to develop an understanding of the role of the teacher in adult learning.

Topics to be covered:

  • Roles and responsibilities of teachers
  • Legislation, professional standards and codes of conduct
  • Inclusion, Equality and Diversity
  • Learning theories
  • Record keeping
  • Planning and managing learning
  • Assessment

Teaching and Learning:

You will be introduced to a number of theories and principles and sessions will focus on how to apply these to practical teaching and learning situations. Many lessons will require you to contribute to group discussions, practical activities and you will be working individually, in pairs and small groups. Individual tutorials with the tutor will be available regularly throughout the course.

Assessment:

You will be assessed using a range of methods, including some written assignments, practical work and observation. These assessments will be built into a portfolio of evidence. Your tutor will assess your work as you progress and then submit your marked portfolio to the awarding institution at the end of the course.
