Preparing to Teach in the LL Sector C&G 7303

SC0176

Is there an interview?

What can I progress to?
This is a threshold Level of teaching qualification. Successful completion

may allow progression to CTLLS, DTLLS or work in the lifelong learning sector. Further initial assessment and interview will be required for all progression.

What is the course about?
Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is a stand-alone threshold qualification; anyone who is teaching must gain this qualification within two years of starting to teach and must not have sole responsibility for a group of learners (e.g. planning a course, lesson content etc). This may also be suitable for people who do not need to be qualified to deliver training, yet feel they would benefit from learning the basics of teaching practice. No teaching hours commitment is required to complete this unit.

What are the course outcomes?
The City & Guilds 7303 Award, entitled 'Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector' (PTLLS), comprises one unit, made up of five sections which is based on the teaching/training cycle.
The five sections cover candidates' understanding of:
·own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
·appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
·session planning skills and demonstration of those skills
·how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
·the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

How will you be assessed?
The course has a value of six credits, consisting of 30 contact and 30 non-contact hours (formally guided learning hours).
It is assessed by completing two assignments, one theory and one practical, both of which are broken into smaller tasks.
The practical includes either a micro-teaching session delivered to fellow students or an observed teaching session.
You may achieve an award at Level 3 or 4 depending upon the standard of your assessments.
