Principles of Care - ASCENTIS Levels 2 & 3

Introduction:
This course will cover origins and development of the welfare state, the development and function of social work, the role of voluntary sector,the impact of community care and service use groups. The course also includes political perspectives and issues of government policy.

Study Mode & Location:
This 1 year part time course will last for 4.5 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
Lectures will be as interactive as possible involving contributions from students in discussions and seminars and use of audio - visual resources etc. You will have to allow additional time for private study and reading if you are to be successful on the course.

Assessment:
The course includes assessment for both Level 2 and Level 3 awards:

Level 2 assessments:

  • A short piece of work (500 words)
  • An extended piece (1,200 words)
  • A portfolio of notes.
Level 3 assessments:

  • 2 essays (each 1,500 words)
  • A project (3000 words)
  • An examination at the end of the course.


Careers & Progression Opportunities:
With additional evidence of study you can apply to higher education to study a Foundation Degree in Integrated Education & Care of Children and Young People offered at Preston College or a Degree in Social Work / Degrees in Welfare Studies, Social Policy, Community Studies and Youth and Community work courses. Successful completion of this course will also enhance your C.V. and may improve employment opportunities.

You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
