This course will allow you to explore and experiment with a range of different monoprinting techniques and approaches to printing a 'one-off' image. You will be able to bring your own source material to use for collage techniques and to develop a composition or series of images.

About this course

Course objectives

• Use various monoprinting techniques to make images from your own source material
• Print using a press and by hand
• Use stencils and layers in prints
• Use chine colle to introduce colour and imagery
• Use the print studio and equipment showing good workshop practice.

Requirements

The course fee covers some basic materials such as inks, acids and white spirit. Please bring rags for cleaning (optional). Please bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources as a starting point to the first session.

Course programme

We will look at applying ink in different ways to produce monoprints, explore ways of introducing colour and photographic imagery directly into prints using collage and chine colle. We will also use stencils to overprint in layers.

Demonstrations, practical assignments, one to one and group discussion. You may want to do some preparatory work outside the class depending on your own individual project.

Additional information

There are a number of printmaking courses available at City Lit and you could go on to study the subject at more advanced levels on full or part-time courses. Your tutor will discuss courses that maybe appropriate for you at the end of the course.
