This course offers qualified practising mental health nurses the opportunity to study modules and qualify at degree level. Thse modules include clinical and /or professional practice related inquiry methods, allowing you to engage in clinical and/or healthcare practice development. You will engage in professionally relevant work based/practice based enquiry and project work leading to personal and/or organisational professional practice development.

If you have a Cert HE and Dip HE qualification, such as Diploma Advanced in Nursing, this course will provide you with 60 credits at level 6, so that you achieve the 360 credits required for an honours degree.

The course also enables registered nurses who have engaged in CPD studies following qualification to gain an undergraduate honours degree.

About this course



In order to be accepted onto the programme applicants must be registered nurses with a minimum of 300 credits of which 60 must be at Level 6. These credits will be pre accredited into the degree pathway.

On going academic /CPD advice will be offered by the Programme Leader to any nurse who wishes to access the BSc (Hons) Professional Practice but who still needs to complete 300 credits in CPD studies prior to commencing the award.

Course programme

The programme comprises two 30 credit work based learning modules:
  • WBS 3630 Professional Practitioner Inquiry
  • WBS 3730 Negotiated Work Based Learning Project
This module aims to provide the opportunity to develop projects, inquiries and/or other work based activities that are designed to improve or inform areas of your own or others' clinical or professional practice in nursing and healthcare. You will explore and critically discuss your work/practice and demonstrate the learning gained, as well as the development of your professional/clinical knowledge and skills. The learning will be located within your own localised and specialised work/practice area.

The themes of projects, inquiries and/or other work based activities are negotiated and can be related to individual clinical/professional or healthcare team practice development and/or wider healthcare organisational development aims.

Learning, teaching and assessment

This course adopts a blended learning approach, combining e learning with some academic facilitation which may be face to face.
