Progression: Preparation for Work (Level 1)

This course will enable you to develop the skills you need toencourage your preparation for the world of work. Students on the course will be able to effectively identify their strengths, learn how to investigate career choices, apply for jobs, attend interviews and successfully plan for a career. The course comprises compulsory work experience which enables you to sample the different aspects of work you may be interested in.

What will I be doing?
The course is divided into units which you will be able to achieve throughout the course. Should you be successful in gaining employment while studying, you will have the chance to complete the course by planning the remainder around your work commitments. You will cover the various aspects of applying for work, money management, alternatives to paid work, leadership skills and health and safety, as well as other skills necessary in work. You will participate in work experience for one day per week from the October half-term onwards, enabling you to work in different organisations.

How will I be assessed?
You will be expected to complete investigations, prepare presentations, survey organisations, and complete assignments and homework during the course. Your assessments will be based on practical activities and are related to the world of work.

Where do I go from here?
Successful completion will enable you to apply for both a Level 2 course in an area that interests you, and suitable employment opportunities.
