When you study for a postgraduate research degree in psychology, you will interpret and advance our knowledge in psychology, producing original research which merits publication and informs current and future practice. You will be invited to submit a research proposal and will be supported by three supervisors who will support you through your independent research period.
Once accepted onto our programme, you will be registered for the MPhil in the first instance and will be given the option to transfer to PhD following a progress review. With a research degree, you will be able to pursue careers in further and higher education, or research opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

About this course
MPhil and PhD graduates in psychology can pursue careers in research as well as teaching in further and higher education and other opportunities in both public and private sectors.
You should have:
A taught Masters degree, with a minimum average of 60% in all areas of assessment (e.g. Merit) level or above, in a generic subject area relevant to the subject matter of the proposed research project; and/or
A First Class or Second Class, First Division (Upper Second Class) Honours degree in a subject area relevant to the proposed research project.
