The requirements for anyone wishing to attend PTS training are set by Network Rail and are as follows: • Sponsorship by a Link Up approved organisation with a NCCA Site I.D. • Valid Network Rail approved medical certificate and negative alcohol and drugs screening certificate. If a person changes sponsor, a new alcohol and drugs certificate will be required.

Who Should Attend? Personal Track Safety (PTS) Training is a requirement for most people who need to work on the Network Rail controlled railway infrastructure and are able to meet the attendance requirements.
Attendance Requirements The requirements for anyone wishing to attend PTS training are set by Network Rail and are as follows: • Sponsorship by a Link Up approved organisation with a NCCA Site I.D. • Valid Network Rail approved medical certificate and negative alcohol and drugs screening certificate. If a person changes sponsor, a new alcohol and drugs certificate will be required unless there is evidence of a negative screening in the 12 months prior to changing sponsor. • PPE including, high visibility trousers and top, safety boots and a hard hat. (Blue hard hat for initial training) • When attending PTS recertification training, delegates must bring their work experience books with the required amount of entries.
Duration and Approach The duration of the initial training is 2 days and includes theory sessions, practical sessions and a track walk on the operational railway. The recertification training is 1 day duration and is classroom based.
Assessment Initial training includes a theory assessment and a practical assessment whilst the recertification training has a theory assessment.
Certification Successful delegates will be awarded a Sentinel Card including PTS and this will be valid for 2 years. This card is issued by the NCCA (An organisation that operates on behalf of Network Rail) and may take up to 10 days to arrive following completion of the training. In some circumstances specified by Network Rail a temporary certificate can be issued by the Trainer at the end of the training but this needs to requested by the Sponsor in advance of the course.
