What will I study?
This Birkbeck, University of London Foundation Degree provides a
flexible academic and professional development programme in public
management, tailored to meet the needs of the local governance
sector. It enables you to develop theoretical and contextual
knowledge and practical skills, with a strong focus on the
particular requirements of the sector, including its unique
democratically accountable nature.
You will have the opportunity to focus further on your own
professional interests through your selection of pathways and
individualised work-based learning project. The Foundation Degree
consists of a number of compulsory modules, which will enhance your
understanding of the main issues and concepts in public sector
management. In Year 2 you may select a specialist pathway from a
choice of either Community Cohesion or London Governance. To gain
the Foundation Degree, you need to successfully complete modules
totalling 240 credits. You may choose from a selection of pathways
detailed below. All modules offered in Year 1 are compulsory.
