The Foundation Degree in Public Services (delivered in partnership with Plymouth University) is designed to open your eyes to the diverse range of careers available. These include uniformed services, such as emergency, defence, security, justice and probation through to non-uniformed roles with local and central government, as well as related voluntary and private-sector agencies. Course programme

Applications are welcomed from candidates with a subject-specific Level 3 course such as a National Subsidiary/Diploma/Extended Diploma, A Level, Access to Higher Education Course, or a work-based course, such as NVQ 3 or Advanced Apprenticeship with 200 UCAS points achieved. Applications from candidates without formal qualifications, but who have a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience and are able to demonstrate that they have developed the necessary skills to succeed on the course will also be considered. All applicants will normally require at least 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above including Maths and English or their Level 2 equivalents. All applicants will be required to attend an interview. Course Content Year 1 • Research and Study Skills • Health and Well-Being • International Relations • Media and Communications in Public Services • Ethics, Values, Diversity and Human Rights • Social Context of Public Services Year 2 • Criminology and Multi Agency Working • Major Incidents and Counter Terrorism • Research Project • Teamwork and Leadership through Outdoor Activities • Managing the Public Finances • Work Based Learning. You are required to complete 200 hours’ work experience within an appropriate public service setting. How will I be assessed? This course is assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations. Progression Those who successfully complete the Foundation Degree in Public Services will be invited to attend the Plymouth University graduation ceremony held in September. Successful students may decide to apply for a top up further year at Plymouth University to study an Honours Degree in Public Services (Policing). Fees The course fees for all students for this course will be £6000 per annum for 2016/17. Additional Course Costs Additional costs include £5 refundable HE Centre pass and a £24 College parking permit if applicable. Currently the cost of visits/trips are funded as part of this course, as well as application costs for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance which is an enrolment requirement of this course. You will be expected to have appropriate sportswear, ie shorts, T-shirt and trainers. *Note – All costs may be subject to change and may vary dependent on place of purchase.
