Treatment and Transfer
Mandatory Units - Candidates must demonstrate competence in:
- Controlling the reception of waste
- Controlling the movement, sorting and storage of wastes
- Monitoring procedures to control risks to health and safety
- Controlling maintenance and other engineering operations
- Controlling improvements to waste management operations
- Supporting the efficient use of resources
- Creating effective use of resources
- Providing information to support decision making on a waste management site
In addition, candidates will have to choose 4 optional units from an accredited list according to site category.
Incineration
Mandatory Units - Candidates must demonstrate competence in:
- Controlling the reception of hazardous wastes
- Controlling the movement, sorting and storage of hazardous wastes
- Monitoring procedures to control risks to health and safety
- Controlling site operations on a waste incineration facility
- Controlling maintenance and other engineering operations
- Controlling the disposal of outputs and residues from waste incineration operations
- Controlling improvements to waste management operations
- Ensuring protection of the environment on hazardous waste treatment or transfer sites
- Supporting the efficient use of resources
- Creating effective use of resources
- Providing information to support decision making on a waste management site
Method of Delivery
Practical assessment of candidates' on-site competence conducted by a qualified and experienced Awarding Body approved Assessor.
Any shortfalls identified during the assessment in either knowledge or experiences are addressed by mentoring or the setting of specific projects.
Landfill
Mandatory Units - Candidates must demonstrate competence in:
- Monitoring procedures to control risks to health and safety
- Controlling maintenance and other engineering operations
- Controlling improvements to waste management operations
- Ensuring protection of the environment on landfill sites
- Supporting the efficient use of resources
- Creating effective use of resources
