Module 2: Course Content - Regulations / Statutory requirements-Implementation, inspection and reinforcement, ionising radiation regulations 1999, ionising radiation (medical exposure) regulations 2000, CQC, ionising radiation (medical exposure) amendment regulations 2011, Regulations and guidance websites
Module 3: Course Content - Appointments, legal person, radiation protection advisor (RPA), radiation protection supervisor (RPS), medical physics expert (MPE), referrer, IRMER practitioner, Operator
Module 4: Course Content - General requirements, risk assessment, training
Module 5: Course Content - Staff and Patient protection, justification and authorisation, Selection criteria/ Referral criteria (IRMER practitioners only), referral, optimisation (ALARP): Dose / Radiation Risk / Recording, lead aprons and thyroid collars, female patients of child bearing age: DRL (Diagnostic Reference Levels), excessive exposure of patients
Module 6: Course Content - Equipment, controlled area, dosimeters, maintenance and testing of dental X-Ray equipment, intra-oral radiography-parameters, collimation, extra-oral radiography, film processing digital detectors, warning signals, portable equipment (hand-held)
Module 7: Course Content - Radiation Protection File, Local Rules (IRR99 requirement), Employer’s written procedures (IR(ME)R requirements), identification of patients prior to radiography, identification of all individuals entitled to act as referrers, IMER practitioners or operators, medico-legal exposures, making enquires of female patients of child bearing age, establishment of enforcement of the quality assurance programs - document QA, assessment of Patients dose, establishment and use of DRL, the carrying out and recording of a clinical evaluation of outcome of each exposure, ensuring that the probability and magnitude of accidental or unintended doses to patients are reduced so far as reasonable practical - ALARP, provision for the carrying out of clinical audits, as appropriate, guidelines for referral criteria for radiographic examinations, written protocols (guideline exposure settings), the method for authorising each exposure for justification record, example of adult protocols, example of adult protocol and exposure chart
Module 8: Course Content - Quality assurance and standards, image quality, patients dose and X-Ray equipment, darkroom, films and processing, The coin test, training, Quality Assurance audits
