Course programme
In the heart of the Italian countryside, Dedalo organises workshops in Raku Ceramics focusing on the creation, glazing and firing of ceramic vessels within the context of the Raku technique.
The course is spread over 4 sundays
During the week you will be shown the basics of modelling clay to create a range of pieces which might be vessels or sculptures, which you will decorate in a variety of ways using special raku glazes to create a beautiful range of individual surface marks, patterns and images.
This workshop is particularly suited for those in search of experimentation as well as for people with little or no experience of raku.
Raku, with its battle with the elements of fire and smoke is an exciting technique, one that is suited to communal firings, as many dedicated workshops can testify. While it is an age-old tradition from Japan, it has found many devout followers in western ceramic communities.
Italian and international students interact in the same classes, making it an ideal venue to share ideas and enhance your overall experience.
The workshop will take place over 4 sundays. 2 days will be used for creating raku vessels, basket forms and other objects. Once dried, after 3-4 days, there can be a first firing and 2 weeks later there is the decoration of the pieces and firings
Accommodation available in residence
Non workshop participants are welcome to watch.
