This course will enable you to apply in-depth knowledge and understanding of renal physiology and the pathophysiology of renal dysfunction in order to inform the clinical decision-making process for best patient care delivery.
The course will also provide you with the skills to critically analyse and reflect on the autonomous role of the renal care practitioner in the delivery of evidence-based care and through inter-professional collaboration make recommendations for optimum and improved future practice.
On completion of the course, you will be a competent and skilled practitioner in all aspects of renal care. You will have developed the skills of analysis, critical thinking, problem solving and reflective practice that are necessary to provide evidence-based holistic care for patients and their families.
You will be a flexible, assertive and reflective independent practitioner working in partnership with patients, families and carers. In addition you will have the opportunity to enhance your skills in order to critically analyse the decision making process and utilise higher levels of clinical judgement to question and rationalise actions and new ideas, which will promote further development of practice.

About this course
You will gain an understanding of renal replacement therapies that used in the treatment of patients with renal failure and be able to provide evidenced-based rationale for the choice of therapy and individualised treatment regimen.
You will also be able to apply your knowledge and skills to meet the psychosocial needs of patients and carers, in relation to early detection, prevention and management of chronic kidney disease by demonstrating a broader understanding of health promotion and health care provision in order to achieve clinical effectiveness.
The knowledge and skills that you gain will enable you to use an independent perspective when critically examining professional, ethical and legal issues relating to renal care and their impact on patient care delivery.
This course is suitable for nurses and other professionals allied to medicine who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in renal care in order to positively influence the health outcomes and quality of life for patients with renal care needs.

an appropriate professional qualification e.g. registered nurse, dietician, pharmacist
currently working in an appropriate area of practice that facilitates your practice development in renal care (you would typically need to be in clinical contact with patients for at least two days per week).
