This blended learning course explores normal development and functioning of the respiratory system in health and disease.
You'll also consider how respiration disorders occur and the rational basis for treatment for these disorders.
The aim is to provide you with a sound understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of the respiratory system.

About this course
This course will help you to:
acquire a sound understanding of the development and the physiology and pathophysiology of the respiratory system and apply this to the development of early respiratory disorders
explain how disorders of respiration occur and consider the rational basis for treatment of these disorders
understand modern ideas on lung and airway functioning, and understand the control of respiration, at rest and during exercise and know the key factors involved in major respiratory diseases
understand the principles involved in maintaining adequate lung and airway functions when these are threatened by disease
The course is suitable for qualified physiotherapists with a degree in physiotherapy at least equivalent to a lower second class Bachelor’s degree in the UK, or an equivalent sports physiology or medical qualification.
It's also suitable for medical students.
