2. Course description The title of Duke of Clarence is said to have originated from the manor of Clare in Suffolk. The title was first granted in 1362 to a son of King Edward III. In this new course we will consider the lives of the princes who held the title including Lionel of Antwerp, the first duke, George, Duke of Clarence who was supposedly drowned in a butt of malmsey wine and Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, said by some to have been 'Jack the Ripper'.
