APC Preparation technical evening classes

A comprehensive range of two-hour evening classes/workshops covering the key subjects – all held in either central London or Kingston.

RICS Valuation Professional Standards

This course covers the structure of RICS Valuation Professional Standards and how they are used in practice. The various bases of value will be investigated and the way valuers need to report to clients when following the Standards.

Case Study and APC Documents

This course covers completion of the RICS APC submission documents, how to write a case study submission and other RICS requirements.

Rent Reviews under Commercial Leases

This course covers the three stages in handling rent reviews under commercial leases of review activation, valuation to arrive at the revised rent, and resolution procedures where the parties are unable to agree a revised rent.

Business Tenancies

This course covers the structure of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 and the renewal processes including landlord's opposition to a renewal tenancy. The use of PACT to resolve disputes will also be looked at.

Sales, Purchases and Lettings Practice

This course covers the legal framework of acting as an agent, methods of disposal, the use of various marketing approaches, the wider legal implications of acting as an agent and deal closure.

Real Estate (Property) Management

This course covers property management issues in relation to both residential and commercial property including handling consents, service charges and other landlord and tenant issues.

The Investment Method of Valuation

This course covers how the investment method of valuation works in practice with an emphasis on appraising the use of different types of yield in a range of valuation scenarios.

Comparative Method of Valuation

This course covers how the comparative method of valuation works in practice with an emphasis on appraising units of comparison in a range of valuation scenarios.

Development Appraisals and Residual Method

This course covers the use of development appraisal techniques are used in practice (including looking at aspects of planning); also considers how the residual method of valuation works with an emphasis on the data inputs in a range of valuation scenarios.

Planning Law and Practice

This course covers the law and practice of planning at the strategic and operational level including planning the approval of development plans and how planning consent is gained. Enforcement and special protection mechanisms will also be considered.

Professional Practice and Ethics

This course covers the RICS constitution, its representative and regulatory roles, the use of published professional standards, codes of conduct and ethical situations and dilemmas. Other important areas such as negligence, bribery and money laundering will be reviewed.

Property Records / Information Systems

This course covers the use of property records and information systems in the surveying workplace including data protection, legal titles and plans, databases and automated valuation models.
