To enable the delegates to be fully aware of the various types of scaffold, their uses and construction, faults most commonly encountered, and to carry out statutory inspections and completion of reports. Suitable for: Engineers, Supervisors, Operatives, or any person(s) who erects, dismantles or inspects steel tube and fitting scaffolds and mobile aluminium access towers as part of their working duties.

About this course

Delegates should provide their own personal protective clothing in a clean and working order which includes safety helmets, protective gloves and safety footwear.

Delegates should provide a passport photograph on the day of training for production of ID Cards. For courses held at our centre in Wellingborough we can provide this service on your behalf using our on-site digital camera.

For training held at your own location please ensure you make available a classroom suitable for the number of delegates attending, with a 240v power supply.

Content
- Applicable legislation, British Standards Code of Practice BS5973 and HSE recommendations
- Working platforms and their safe working loads
- Scaffold systems including independent tied scaffolds, system scaffolds and mobile aluminium towers
- Safe use of ladders
- Scaffold erection to include the correct use and application of fall arrest equipment during scaffold erection
- The inspection of all types of scaffold (independent, putlog, birdcage, mobile and static)
- Statutory Inspections and completion of reports also incorporating handover certificates and method statements

Knowledge
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Understand the requirements of the relevant legislation, British Standards Code of Practice BS5973 and HSE recommendations for inspecting scaffold systems
- Identify the safe working loads for working platforms
- Differentiate between various scaffold systems and for what purpose they should be used
- Adopt a safe working practice for the use of ladders
- Correctly select and use fall arrest equipment during scaffold erection
- Carry out statutory inspections of all types of scaffolds

Training Methods
A mix of theoretical and practical studies including syndicate exercises in the erection, inspection and dismantling of a mobile aluminium tower (MAT). In order to pass the course delegates will need to successfully complete a post-course assessment paper.
