Screen Printing For Interior Fabric Design

This in-depth week long course focuses on designing and mastering printed textiles for interiors. Aimed at beginners and intermediates, with access to the professional facilities of the print room at the Kings Cross campus, the course is led by textile designer Kangan Arora.

During the 5-day course, you will cover the full process from creating and selecting suitable artwork to screen preparation, through to the successful printing of your chosen design onto fabric. You will be using a variety of pigments inks and specialist binders and exploring finishing techniques like foiling and flocking.

Your print design work will be based on library visits and independent research and at the end of the course you should have a bursting sketchbook full of ideas, a variety of paperwork designs and printed fabric samples in various techniques for your portfolio.

Topics and activities include:

• Introduction to screen-printing terminology, facilities and processes
• Creating hand drawn artwork
  
• Preparation of screens for exposure
  
• Mixing of pigments and inks
  
• Screen-printing with specialist binders including opaque, puff, metallic and more.
  
• Experimenting with finishing techniques like foiling and flocking
  
• Brief introduction to repeat-pattern printing
  

You will be provided with all printing materials and fabric for initial sampling, but we encourage you to bring a variety of different fabrics (approx 1m each) to experiment with.
