This course will introduce you to algorithm editor Grasshopper for use with Rhino's 3D modelling tools, presenting the software environment and logics as well as providing a series of techniques to approach algorithmic design at different scales.
Exercises throughout the course are likely to include:
Exercise One: design of a small object (lamp) using 2D components and production of fabrication drawings
Exercise Two: design of medium sized object (bench) based on waffle structure systems
Exercise Three: design of a medium sized object (pavilion) using 3D components
Exercise Four: design and control of building facades/skins
Exercise Five: control of environmental data and implementation in design process

About this course
The use of algorithmic design software has become ubiquitous in the fields of architecture in recent years. From concept design to technical detailing, algorithmic modelling has enhanced the creativity of designers, enabling them to manage a much higher degree of complexity than the one allowed by traditional modelling. Informed by relevant parameters defined by the designer, algorithmic software is a rule-based tool to transform conceptual diagrams into rigorous and detailed digital models ready to be manufactured.
By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
manage a Grasshopper file in connection with Rhino
connect external parameters (attractors, site conditions, sun analysis) to your design
export information in the form of fabrications drawings or illustrator diagrams
The course is suitable for beginners, but basic knowledge of Rhino is required.
Please note, in order to get the most out of the course, it is recommended that you set aside some time between lessons to review what was covered the previous week.
The center will contact you once you have sent your information through the form.
