This is a general level course beginners are welcome.You will be guided using the skeleton and a plaster casts of hand and feet to illustrate the anatomy.You will be shown the techniques and principals of clay modelling.You will be shown images of related work made by other artists and cultures.Everyone will work alongside each other in a mutually supportive environment in which you will learn from your specialist tutor and each other.

About this course

- Gain basic knowledge of the anatomy of the hand and foot- Make a series of observational drawings- Have a basic understanding of proportion and scale and how to incorporate this into your work- Explore how to make clay sculptures of hands and/or foot.- Start to use sculpture tools and equipment fit for the day’s activity- Gain confidence in expressing your ideas through an individual piece of sculpture, beginners level- Develop an aesthetic evaluation towards a finished sculpture.

All basic tools and materials are provided. Please bring a sketchbook. Course programme

- Basic anatomy of the hand and foot.
- Produce preparatory drawings to be translated onto clay
- Proportion and scale.
- Modelling a 3D clay sculpture of a hand and foot.
- Use safe working practice in the sculpture studio including the use of materials, tools & equipment
- You will be introduced to related sculpture by other artists and cultures.


You will learn through practical demonstrations, group and individual discussions and tutorials, slide lectures and personal tuition. A wide range of learning resources and equipment are provided.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor in a constructive and supportive environment.
