From anime to Zen, Japanese Studies offers a full range of courses in language, culture, literature and contemporary media. Activities immerse students in a culturally rich Japanese experience.
The Japanese House provides a residential option in the modern language. Students and the resident Japanese assistant organize calligraphy sessions, conversation groups, parties and other activities including videos, skits, singing, dance, and martial arts demonstrations. The JapaneseLanguage Table offers daily opportunities to interact with students and instructors in an informal atmosphere. Juniors study abroad at the C.V. Starr-Middlebury School in Tokyo, one of the world's most vibrant cities. Seniors consolidate linguistic gains made abroad with a disciplinary focus in their capstone year of independent research, writing, or translation.
