Course programme

Entry requirements The minimum qualification you need to gain entry to the course is at Level 3 or 4 in the subject(s) that you intend to teach. Normally, the qualification you need to teach your subjects would meet these requirements. Applicants must have GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or Level 2 equivalent) before attending for interview. Those wishing to enter the Professional and Postgraduate Certificate in Education routes must hold a UK first degree (or equivalent). All applicants must have a minimum of 100 paid teaching hours over the two years of the programme with no less than 50 hours in any one year. Applicants will also need to provide an appropriate reference and have completed an appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. (This will normally have been carried out by your employer). All applicants will need a workplace mentor; normally a qualified and experienced colleague teaching the applicant's subject. Guidance will be offered relating to the role of the workplace mentor. What you will learn Year 1 Principles and Practice in Post Compulsory Education Practical Teaching and Learning Exploring Specialist Teaching Advanced Professional Practice in Context ; Certificate in Education is studied at levels 4 and 5; Professional Graduate Certificate in Education is studied at levels 5 and 6; Postgraduate Certificate in Education is studied at levels 6 and 7.
