Shirt Design and Construction

On this beginners/intermediate shirt design course you will learn how to make a classic shirt with all the details such as cuffs, collar, yoke and sleeves. You will also learn four basic seams used within the industry depending on the different fabrics your shirt is constructed from.

Topics covered:

An introduction to the sewing machine

Seams and finishings

Using blocks and cutting out

You will break down the construction of each aspect of a shirt including - yokes, collars, cuffs, sleeves and hems

Learn how to adapt patterns to your own design e.g. sleeves and collars to create a unique design.

Outcomes:
By the end of this course you will have made a shirt out of calico and have the pattern to take away with you. You will also have practiced four seam details used within the clothing industry and have made samples of each.

Who should take this course:
This course is suitable for people who already have some experience of sewing but who would like to practice and develop their skills. This course would be an excellent follow on course from Introduction to Professional Sewing Skills

Level:
Beginners to intermediate

Entry requirements:
Some sewing knowledge would be beneficial however it is not essential.
