Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The HABC Level 2 Award in Security Guarding (QCF) has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the learner with the necessary knowledge and understanding for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a security guard within the private security industry.

Subjects covered include the roles and responsibilities of security officers, patrolling, search procedures, security systems, communication, reporting and record keeping, legislation and its relevance to the role, avoiding conflict and reducing personal risk, reducing risk of conflict, effective communication and problem solving strategies.

The qualification comprises three mandatory units:

Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry

Unit 2 – Working as a Security Officer

Unit 3 – Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry

The minimum contact hours for this qualifications are 20.5 hours of the required 36 guided learning hours.

After completing this qualification delegates can work in security environments such as shopping centres, sports complexes, factories, hospitals, community centres and building sites, etc.
