A beginners singing course designed to give the student a basic knowledge of good vocal technique and the confidence to perform in a group setting (max 25 places). All are welcome including those with some experience who want to find out how to get the most out of their voice. Tutor: Richard Hartley Wilson.

Please bring a folder for your music (which we provide), pencil and you may wish to also bring something to record music (a Dictaphone) is useful.

Course programme

- Classes will include a thorough vocal warm up exercising all areas of the voice
- Breathing techniques designed to help the voice and nerves
- Some music theory to take the mystery out of sheet music
- Ensemble singing to learn to blend and harmonise.

Classes will start with a gentle physical and vocal warm-up, and then progress on to group singing: sometimes as a large group and sometimes dividing into smaller groups for part-singing/harmonies. Classes will be taught with some piano accompaniment. You will be asked to practise material given and to use the warm up to strengthen the voice.

Additional information

We recommend that you repeat this course for a minimum of 3 modules (spanning the three terms of the academic year). After this you may like to progress to an ensemble singing class or consider exploring solo singing through Basic technique for singing: module 1.
